(Joey and Hope are just back from their shopping.)

Hope:

Phew! We are finally back! I can’t believe we bought so much stuff!

Joey:

I know, right? Look at all this! We’ve got these T-shirts. They are really a bargain!

And two pairs of sneakers, a skirt for the party, a leather wallet for my dad, and this hoodie for myself.

Oh, I just couldn’t resist it! When things are on sale, you can really buy so much!

真的好好買! Thanks for going shopping with me today, Hope.

Hope:

Don’t mention it. You are my favorite shopping buddy!

I couldn’t ask for a better shopping companion than you.

Joey:

Really? 我是你的最佳逛街夥伴?

Hope:

Of course. You give good opinions and are a bargain hunter!

Joey:

I am glad you say so. Of course we should get our money’s worth! 當然要讓錢發揮最大價值囉!

Hope:

Now…look at our shopping haul! Wow!

People on the streets might think we tried to buy out the whole mall!

Joey:

What do you mean? Shopping hole? 購物坑洞?

Hope:

No, no, no. it’s Shopping haul? H-A-U-L. Haul.

Joey:

Oh! Shopping haul. So, what’s that?

Hope:

Oh, it means the things we bought today. Like these skincare products and those snacks.

Joey:

All the things we’ve shopped for? You mean “戰利品?”

Hope:

That’s right. These are our shopping haul and you can also say shopping loot.

Joey:

Got it! Shopping haul or shopping loot means戰利品.

Hope:

Correct. Now, look at these T-shirts. They’re really a steal!

Joey:

A steal? You mean stealing, S-T-E-A-L,偷?

Hope:

That’s what I said. But here, “it’s a steal” means it’s so cheap it almost feels stealing. It’s a surprisingly good deal compared to the actual value.

Joey:

I see. It’s a steal means物超所值, right?

Hope:

Exactly! Like I said. Everything we bought today was a steal!

Joey:

By the way, Hope. Do you feel a bit relieved, both physically and mentally, after shopping?

Hope:

Hey, there is a term for that. It’s called retail therapy.

Joey:

Retail therapy. 購物療法?! Ah! 就是藉由買東西紓壓啦!

Hope:

Exactly! Retail therapy.

Joey:

Hmm… I usually need some retail therapy after a stressful week. Can I say that?

Hope:

Yup! You got it! Some people go shopping to make themselves feel happier because they find it’s a good way to release pressure.

Joey:

And when I can’t go shopping like today, I do online shopping!

You know, I’ll choose items and加入購物車, and then click and pay. 這是我的另類購物療法!

Hope:

Yeah, when you add the items to your cart, it feels like letting go of your pressure! It’s definitely another type of retail therapy.

Joey:

Ha-ha!

Hope:

But I think we should still watch  our wallets and try to avoid “impulse buying.” After all, money doesn’t come easy!

Joey:

Impulse buying. You mean 衝動購物?

Hope:

Uh-huh.

Joey:

放心吧! 我可是自詡 “撿便宜達人,” the bargain hunter. 你忘了嗎? 畢竟，賺錢不容易嘛!
