Dialogue: (對話)

Hope:

Hey, Joey, how’s life?

Joey:

Not bad. How about you, Hope?

Hope:

Same here. Everything goes well. But Joey, what’s going on with Rita? I saw her rushing out of the door with tears on her face.

Joey:

Oh! She had a quarrel with her supervisor, Ms. Lee, just now. It seems that Ms. Lee wasn’t satisfied with her project.

Hope:

I think Rita must be very upset. And she has been under lots of pressure recently, and so has Ms. Lee.

Joey:

There’s nothing much we can do, though. But sometimes too much work may make me 感覺很糟。

Hope:

That’s true. We feel terrible when we have heavy workload and the due date is just around.

Joey:

Agree. Whenever this time, I would prepare lots of snacks in the drawer and start to eat! 你知道的…開吃!

Hope:

Oh! That’s the first no-no to do.

Joey:

N0-no? 不合適的事物嗎?

Hope:

Yes. You should avoid over-eating especially when you feel bad! It’s bad to your body.

Joey:

I know that, but what else can we do?

Hope:

Well, there are many ways, but the very first thing you need to do is to be aware of your negative emotions.

Joey:

Be aware of your negative emotions? 要知道你的負面情緒?

Hope:

To be more precise, it is 察覺.

Joey:

You are right. To be aware of your negative feelings is to 察覺你的負面情緒。

Hope:

Yes, you should be aware of your feelings before you can deal with them. And then, you have to accept the fact that you are in the negative feelings.

Joey:

I see. Many people believe they will be fine when they are frustrated. And gradually, they would feel too stressful to 忍受.

Hope:

You are right. If you ignore your true feelings, you may feel too stressful to bear it anymore.

Joey:

That would be terrible.

Hope:

So, I think it is brave enough for Rita to walk out of the office.

Joey:

Hmm… it might be a good way for her to release her pressure. But I think Ms. Lee is a 工作狂. And she thinks everyone should be like her.

Hope:

She is definitely a workaholic, who hardly takes breaks. That’s why she is in her position.

Joey:

True. But it’s now fair when she puts her 標準 on someone else.

Hope:

Standard.

Joey:

Right. She should never put her standard on someone else. Sometimes I don’t like her, when she 拿職位壓人.

And you know she is not the supervisor in my department and she likes管東管西的!

Hope:

I see what you mean. She likes pulling rank on others and she is a micromanager, who cares even very tiny stuff.

Joey:

But I guess that’s why she is a good employee for our boss.

Hope:

In my opinion, to have a better life, we should strike a balance between our work and life.

Joey:

我知道! 在工作和生活中取得平衡! We should strike a balance between work and life.

Hope:

That’s right. So when you can, do something to cheer up ourselves. For example, talk to someone who knows you well.

This way, you let off steam and you may feel much better.

Joey:

Let off steam? 讓蒸汽洩出?

Hope:

Yes, it means you get rid of your strong feelings or energy by doing or saying something.

Joey:

I see. I think the other good way to let off steam is to do exercise or go jogging, so you can 暫時忘了不開心的事。

Hope:

Agree. Exercise is a good way to let go of some of the unpleasant things.

Joey:

So…Do you think we should call Rita now , and ask her out for dinner this evening, or ask her to the gym later?

Hope:

Good idea!
