How’s your day, Joey?

Joey:

Very well. How about you, Hope?

Hope:

Same here. Hmm… It’s been a great year!

Joey:

Yes, it’s been a great year, isn’t it?

Hope:

And in a few more days, year 2025 will knock the door!

Joey:

Right. A lot of things have happened in year 2024.

Hope:

Agreed. It feels like we blinked, and suddenly we are expecting the new year!

Joey:

Blinked? Isn’t that 眨眼睛?

Hope:

Yes, like this! Blink your eyes!

Joey:

So, you mean 感覺就像一眨眼的功夫, it feels like we blinked.

Hope:

That’s right. Time waits for no man. So, Joey, how are you feeling about this year in retrospect?

Joey:

Let me think. Well, in the beginning of the year, in January, we have, 總統和立委選舉,

the Presidential election and Legislator election. And we all chose our ideal candidates.

Hope:

But somehow, people still have to take to the streets to call for some changes in the Legislative Yuan.

Joey:

That’s quite normal in Taiwan society, isn’t it?

Hope:

Agreed. And if I were right, there was a food poisoning incident in Taipei in March, which makes people be more alert to food safety issues.

Joey:

Yes, I remember that. 那件事讓大家憂心忡忡，也更關心食安議題。

Hope:

Yes. It was quite a concern to people then.

Joey:

Right. It was quite a concern to people. And after that, there was a huge earthquake in Hualien.

Hope:

On April 3rd, right? Some people died and many injured. Then, from July 26th to August 11th, there were Summer Olympics held in Paris.

Joey:

YES! Many of the athletes performed so well that they won many medals in Olympics games,

such as 戴姿穎(Tai Tzu-Ying)、林玉婷(Lin Yu-ting)、李洋(Lee Yang) and 王麒麟(Wan Chi-lin) and many athletes, just to name a few.

Hope:

Yes. The most impressive ones to me are Badminton and Women’s boxing.

Joey:

Same here. 看到他們鍥而不捨的精神，就覺得每一個人都應該努力。

Hope:

True. Their “never-give-up” attitudes towards their choices have inspired many people, from young to old.

Joey:

And plus, there were quite many world famous singers and bands holding concerts in Taiwan, too.

Hope:

That’s for the entertainment. So, did you go to any of their concerts, Joey?

Joey:

Nope! But I would if I had saved up enough money!

Hope:

And in October and November, we were experiencing quite many typhoons hitting Taiwan.

Joey:

Yes, some of them were very scary.

Hope:

Hmm… Year 2024 has been truly a roller-coaster ride.

Joey:

You can say that again. It’s like a roller-coaster ride. 如雲霄飛車般的跌宕起伏.

Hope:

So, Joey, for the coming year, what is your prospect?

Joey:

Well, I will 保持樂觀and多方探索學習囉。

Hope:

That’s the spirit! Stay optimistic and explore different domains.

Joey:

You know, I have to be more professional at work. What about you, Hope?

Hope:

Survive and thrive. I think. But I will set a clear boundaries between work and personal life.
