Dialogue: (對話)

Hope:

Hey, Joey, how’s life?

Joey:

Good. How about you, Hope?

Hope:

Same here.

Joey:

對了,Hope, can I ask you a question?

Hope:

Sure, go ahead.

Joey:

I recently have saved up a certain amount of money and feel like buying a car.

Hope:

Wow! Good for you! Joey. I am proud of you! So, what seems to be the problem?

Joey:

Well, first, I have enough money to afford my ideal car, but I am not sure if I should 全部用來買車。

Hope:

Hmm…That’s a problem to think about. So, you are not sure whether you should purchase your ideal car in all the cash you have, am I right?

Joey:

You are right. If I use all the money to purchase my ideal car, I’ll be short of cash to do other things.

到時候我的手邊就沒有閒錢了。For example, to take a trip abroad or go to a good restaurant, etc. 可能有半年以上會感到生活拮据。

Hope:

I see.  So, you have to consider loaning money from the bank, right?

Joey:

Loaning money from the bank? You mean borrowing money from the bank?

Hope:

Yes. So, if you choose to loan the money from the bank, you have to think about how much money you are going to

borrow from the bank and how much money you should pay the bank each month.

Joey:

Yes, and I am not sure if I should choose 固定利率 or 可調利率貸款。

Hope:

Hmm…I am torn. That’s a hard question. The fixed-rate seems safer for an office worker like you,

but the adjustable rate has lower initial payments.

Joey:

You are what? Torn?

Hope:

Sorry. I am torn means it is hard for me to make a decision.

Joey:

Got it! So the fixed-rate is固定利率 and the adjustable rate is可調利率貸款。

Hope:

Hu huh! With the fixed-rate, you have peace of mind because you know your payments won’t change.

However, with the adjustable rate, there is potential for lower payments initially.

Joey:

I see. It means if I choose the adjustable rate, I might get into risk if the interest rates go up unexpectedly.

Hope:

So, I think the best way is to talk to a financial advisor to weigh the pros and cons.

Joey:

A financial advisor is 理專嗎?

Hope:

Yes. A financial advisor may give you some good advice. They are more professional than I am.

They can guide you through the process.

Joey:

I see. I should do that before making a decision.

Hope:

Remember, you are not alone in this. People who want to buy a car, a house or start a business may all have the same questions like yours.

But with careful planning and research, you can make a best choice for yourself.

Joey:

Thank you. Hope. I appreciate your support.

Hope:

Anyway, I feel honored to be here for you! And it is wonderful that you are able to afford a car!
