Dialogue: (對話)
Hope: | Hey, Joey, how are you doing today? |
Joey: | Pretty good. How about you, Hope? |
Hope: | Not bad. I am on my 4-day Spring Break right now. |
Joey: | 4-day Spring Break?! 對耶! 現在是春假期間。From April 4th to April 7th, right? |
Hope: | That’s right. |
Joey: | 我一直納悶how to say 春假 in English. So,春假is Spring Break? Not spring holiday or spring vacation. Hmm…But why do we call this holiday a break, instead of a vacation or a holiday? |
Hope: | By definition, Break means a short period of rest, and it also means a time away from work or our regular activities. We haven’t had a long holiday since the Lunar New Year, so this 4-day holiday is a kind of break for us, you know students and the working force. Plus, it perfectly falls in spring. So, we just call it the Spring Break! |
Joey: | That’s interesting. I think it is important for students and parents to take a break to 充電 或 放風。 |
Hope: | I agree. Spring Break provides everyone a chance to recharge and unwind before they get back to school or work. |
Joey: | Hmm…recharge and unwind, 充電和放風! I think 適時調整身心是重要的! |
Hope: | You can say that again! It’s important to adjust our pace in life, so we can maintain both physical and mental health. |
Joey: | Adjust our pace in life means 調整生活步調。So, Does maintain both physical and mental health mean 維持生理和心理健康? |
Hope: | Yes. To maintain both physical and mental health means 維持身心健康in Chinese. |
Joey: | Talking about this, Hope, do you have any plans for the Spring Break? |
Hope: | Well, I just went Tomb-sweeping with my family on Tomb-sweeping Day. It was yesterday. And we had a traditional snack, spring rolls for lunch. |
Joey: | Spring rolls? 春捲?! I had Spring rolls for snacks, too. It’s a traditional snack on Tomb-sweeping Day, 清明掃墓節。 |
Hope: | Yes. And this weekend, my family and I plan to go cycling in Sun Moon Lake. We’ve already booked a hotel. What about you, Joey? |
Joey: | Well, I plan to hang out with my friends. Perhaps we will go see a movie and then have a big lunch together. |
Hope: | After that? |
Joey: | After that, we plan to go to Chijin to fly kites. Besides, Chijin is a good place to enjoy the beautiful sunset. |
Hope: | Great. Hopefully, we’ll be full of energy and have a good start next week. |
