Dialogue: (對話)
Hope: | Hey, Joey, have you followed the news that reports about some sexual harassment cases at some workplaces? |
Joey: | Sexual harassment? Is that 性騷擾? |
Hope: | Yes, since the social movement of #Metoo, there are quite many issues discussing about the matters. And more and more related cases have surfaced and they are kind of arousing people’s awareness of the problem. |
Joey: | Yes. It happens everywhere, including in companies, in schools, 政治圈 and 演藝圈. |
Hope: | Yes, among politicians and among those celebrities. |
Joey: | And I have also heard a term, PUA. What does PUA stand for? |
Hope: | PUA stands for Pickup Artists. It refers to a person who practices some techniques or strategies to attract a potential romantic or sexual partners. But it has been widely criticized because of some negative impacts. |
Joey: | I see. So, what do you think we should do to protect ourselves? |
Hope: | I’ll say, first, we should trust our instincts. If we don’t feel right or feel uncomfortable with some inappropriate comments or behaviors, we should do things to keep ourselves safe. |
Joey: | And if possible, we can let the person know the boundary before the person cross the line, right? |
Hope: | Yes. It is important to let the person understand that you don’t like the situation. |
Joey: | But what if when we are afraid that it might affect our working opportunity? |
Hope: | Seeking support from friends or bystanders may help. Remember that you are not alone. In any case, we should be brave enough to tell others. |
Joey: | I see. So, should we yell out loud? |
Hope: | It depends. For instance, if someone deliberately touches you, to avoid the embarrassment, you can just say politely, such as, “Oh! You startled me!” and quickly walk away. |
Joey: | Hmm… it is a good way to let the person know that he has crossed the line. |
