本首歌曲充滿了鄉村情調，可以說是約翰丹佛的代表作，也有許多歌手的崇拜翻唱。整首歌曲以West Virginia（西維吉尼亞州）為背景，歌詞寫入當地的景物，整首歌詞中，我們很明顯可以感受到約翰丹佛對於家鄉——西維吉尼亞的熱愛，也呈現出他將家鄉的山脈、河水視為母親的懷抱一般。在2014年，這首歌曲被官方推選為西維吉尼亞的州歌之一。
