只可惜，Minnie Riperton（蜜妮萊普頓）才剛開始成名，就在1976年發現自己患了乳癌。1979年Minnie Riperton病逝於洛杉磯，享年方31歲。有著足足五個八度音階的寬廣音域，堪稱有史以來天賦最佳的女歌手之一，可惜在歌壇卻只能曇花一現。《Loving you》成為她留給世人的絕響。
