The National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute (NTCRI) opened the exhibition Crafted from the Soul – Weaving and Dyeing Art of Chen Ching-lin at its Taipei Branch. The exhibition presents the work of Chen Ching-lin (陳景林), recipient of the 2024 National Crafts Achievement Award, and showcases his contributions to natural dyeing and fiber art over more than 40 years.

Deputy Minister of Culture Sue Wang stated that Chen’s works reflect both visual qualities and the dedication behind the processes of weaving and dyeing. She also noted that Chen’s participation in the World Expo in Osaka and Taipei Fashion Week SS26 demonstrates the continued development and application of traditional crafts.

VTCRI Director Chen Tien-li said the exhibition highlights Chen’s practice of combining traditional dyeing techniques with fiber art, installation, and large-scale painting, forming an approach that explores cultural memory and landscapes.

Chen Ching-lin shared that he has conducted research on natural dyes since the 1990s, developing hundreds of dye materials derived from plants and producing a wide range of colors. He emphasized the importance of grounding craft practice in local culture while engaging with a broader global context.

The exhibition runs through May 3, 2026. More information is available on NTCRI’s official website.
