Taiwanese actors receive Yakushi Pearl Award at Osaka Asian Film Festival

The 20th Osaka Asian Film Festival (OAFF) held its closing ceremony and award presentations on Mar. 23, where the four main actors—Alexia Kao (高伊玲), Lan Wei-hua (藍葦華), Tseng Jing-hua (曾敬驊), and Queena Huang (黃珮琪)—from the Taiwanese film “Family Matters (我家的事)” received the Yakushi Pearl Award.

Minister of Culture Li Yuan congratulated the actors upon receiving this news, stating that this international recognition highlights the dedication and talent of Taiwan’s cultural workers. He added that the ministry will continue to work with filmmakers across the country to achieve even greater success.

“Family Matters,” the feature-length debut of director Pan Ke-yin (潘客印), is a bittersweet family drama. According to the OAFF, the four actors were honored with the award for “expressing the complex emotions of each family member with a superb ensemble performance and contributing to the creation of a great masterpiece by a feature-film debut director.”

As a major international film festival in Japan’s Kansai region, the OAFF attracts film producers, directors, and distributors from across Asia for networking and exchange. The Taiwan Cultural Center in Tokyo collaborates with the OAFF annually to promote Taiwanese cinema in Japan.
