A Brief History
In light of the importance of education to national development, the government has been since its transfer to Taiwan in 1949 actively engaging in developing the business of education and cultivating talents. The Ministry of Education thus began to establish the National Education Radio (NER) pursuant to the approval of the Executive Yuan. The construction of NER was completed with its first program going on air on March 29th of 1960.
NER’s responsibility has evolved with the passage of time and is becoming heavier by the day. The mission is no longer as straight forward as it was as more than fifty years ago when it was designed specifically to supplement the national education system. The goal is now much expanded and diversified. It is entrusted to play a professional education radio role to help further the overall education system for the coming new era of educational broadcasting.
